Bakersfield National Cemetery Outline of Burial Services

Burial services at Bakersfield National Cemetery are intended to be a short respectful, dignified final farewell. Bakersfield National Cemetery is not designed to perform large viewings or extended services. Services are held to perform military honors for our veterans and provide a few minutes for family to say a few parting words. Typically, this service is no longer than 20 minutes.

Burials are scheduled immediately following the committal service. This is to allow their limited field staff to complete daily burials requirements and routine required daily assignments.

In order to give the highest quality possible for families and friends they ask for your assistance in the following:
  • The designated next of kin to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the scheduled committal service to complete required paperwork. Paperwork includes headstone information (including term of endearment), agreement for burial and a divided cremated remains from (if cremated remains have been divided), along with verification of Burial Permits for accuracy.
  • Bakersfield National Cemetery ask for your assistance in getting family and friends into their vehicle’s ten minutes prior to schedule start time so that the procession to the committal shelter does not detract from allotted service times. At Bakersfield National Cemetery, they strive to give valuable time after services so families can pay their respects, unfortunately this very revered time is often lost due to visitors not knowing of time constraints. We encourage family and friends to be timely and diligent.
  • Military Honors will be provided by the California State Honor Guards for every veteran’s service. If the family wishes to have another branch of service to perform Honors, the funeral home or family must contact that branch of service directly.
  • Due to the wind conditions that exist, flower stands and pictures may be required to be placed on the ground during services. Three floral arrangements can be placed at grave site, glass flower holder are not permitted.
