Grief And The Holidays

Lady Grieving During the Holidays

As many of us come together with our families to celebrate the many wonderful gifts that we are thankful for this Thanksgiving. There are also many people that this holiday season will bring feelings that are hard to describe. When you lose a loved one, the world can lose its celebratory qualities. Regardless of if your loss has happened this year or years ago the holidays seem to magnify that loss. The sadness you feel is sadder and the loneliness is more profound.

It has been 10 years now since I have physically celebrated the holidays with my dad. While the pain of the loss is not as sharp as it once was, it still exists. I choose to make him part of the holiday season by sharing my favorite stories about him and looking through photo albums and watching videos.

If you find yourself in need of suggestions to assist you through this holiday season, please visit Grief.com. Please know that you are not alone and the your feelings are normal. It is my heart filled wish that regardless of your circumstances that you can find some peace this holiday season, and enjoy the love and comfort of the family and friends in your life.

Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
